YOUTH AND MARIJUANA
Re: Young people' s views shouldn't be taken for granted, May 31.
Rudyard Griffiths and Greg Lyle, co-authors of the Youth Vote 2004 study
for CanWest Global, present interesting survey numbers, but not
necessarily correct ones, especially given the 4.3 per cent margin of
error.
Most opposition to the legalization of marijuana from young people stems
from the myth that supply and quality will suffer in a legal, regulated
market.
Did Mr. Griffiths and Mr. Lyle take this into account in
their survey methodology? It seems odd, since young people that I talk
to offer overwhelming support -- upwards of 95 per cent -- to end
marijuana prohibition.
Youth from all over the province have been telling me that they will be
on Parliament Hill on June 5 to support the Fill The Hill rally to
legalize marijuana. I suppose turnout will determine whose numbers
are correct.
