To the Editor of THE EAGLE:- If District Attorney Capeless lets
"youthful" offenders off the hook with community service and does not
prosecute school-zone violations charges, what kind of a message does that send
to other youths in Great Barrington or Berkshire County? Would it be OK with
their defenders ( Concerned Citizens for Appropriate Justice ) if youth from
Pittsfield came down to their parking lot to sell marijuana?
They can't do it in Pittsfield, first offense or not. They know they will
go to jail if there is a school-zone violation involved. I thought Great
Barrington asked the police to help clean up the drug problem in that parking
lot. Well, they did, and now the district attorney must do the job we
elected him to do. He said he would be tough on the drug problems in
Berkshire County. I'm glad he is keeping his word.
Maybe CCAJ should spend some of the money it is spending on ad campaigns against
Capeless on a campaign to run for his job in the next election. It is not
an easy job and not always popular. Me, I'll be voting for David Capeless.
