COPS SEEK PILOTS' ASSISTANCE

Fliers Helped RCMP Shut Down Grow Ops Last Year

Getting high is the Whistler Pemberton RCMP's most recent plan of attack on cracking down on marijuana grow operations after tips from local fliers last year helped shut down a number of grow operations.

"Last year, local Mounties received numerous tips from flying enthusiasts who provided accurate information on the locations of grow sites," said Cpl.  Paul Vadik in a statement.

"As a result of this information, a significant quantity of marijuana was destroyed."

RCMP ask local pilots to be on the lookout for any illegal outdoor marijuana grow operations while flying.

Vadik said outdoor grow sites are usually large in scale.  He encouraged fliers to forward GPS coordinates for suspect locations.

Whistler Pemberton RCMP officers are working with RCMP Air Services, B.C.  Forestry, Stl'atl'imx Tribal Police and other agencies to patrol remote areas to put a stop to illegal operations.

Anyone with any in formation on possible sites, contact Whistler RCMP at ( 604 ) 932-3044.
