30 KILOS OF CANNABIS SEIZED IN A DAY
AT LEAST 30 kilograms of marijuana were seized by alert agents of the
Philippine National Police Maritime Group and the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency in separate operations the other day.
MARIG director Senior Supt. Ricardo B. Dapat said 32 bricks
of cannabis set for distribution in Manila were confiscated during an
inspection at the ship Our Lady of Lipa which was docked at Pier 4 of
Manila's North Harbor.
Arrested was a certain Roy D. Cadap, the alleged owner of the two
boxes where the marijuana bricks were found.
MARIG agents became suspicious when Cadap, of 1826 Betag, La Trinidad,
Benguet, refused to open the boxes during a routine inspection.
The boxes yielded 28 kilos of marijuana bricks.
The suspect was turned over to PDEA chief Undersecretary Anselmo S.
Avenido Jr. Police said Cadap is believed to be a drug courier
from Cordillera, the main source of marijuana being distributed in
different parts of the country particularly in Metro Manila.
In the Island Garden City of Samal, members of the PDEA Regional Office
11 caught two suspected drug traffickers with 1.05 kilos of dried
marijuana leaves, Avenido said.
He identified the suspects as Mojemar A. Jaire and Marcelino R.
Villamor.
In Baguio City, PDEA operatives also arrested two suspected drug dealers
during an entrapment operation which resulted in the seizure of 50.1
grams of shabu worth P102,000, 6.8 grams of dried marijuana leaves and
assorted drug paraphernalia.
Nabbed along the Queen of Peace Road in Baguio City were Ben D.
Domingo and Loida B. Ramos. The suspects were slapped with
charges of illegal possession of dangerous drugs, a non-bailable offense
punishable by death.
