CITY OF LAS VEGAS

It wasn't much of a feel-good week.  Democrats wrapped up their nauseating, made-for-television cheerleading rally.  The Bush administration quickly returned the American focus back to terrorism, announcing threats on East Coast financial institutions.  Hundreds died in a Paraguay supermarket fire.  And, locally, the Sierra Club managed to halt construction on U.S.  95.

But on Aug.  2, the city of Las Vegas gave us a real reason to feel good.  They granted Bill Kosinski a business license for his consulting company to help marijuana patients find marijuana.  The license is a small jab against the crippling Drug War, but it is a major advance in the state's medical marijuana program.

As CityLife profiled with Pierre Werner, who repeatedly attempted to legally start his consulting business, the state's Medical Use of Marijuana Act was basically useless.  While licensed Nevadans could legally smoke medicinal marijuana, there was nowhere for them to find it except with unsafe and unreliable street dealers.  Kosinski now has the power to alter that, hopefully sparking other businesses and public opinion to travel this high ( and legal ) road to reform.
